Becoming a Financial Consultant

What are we looking for?

Not everyone can become a successful Financial Consultant. An ideal candidate is someone who wants their success to be unlimited and undetermined by anyone but themselves. If you are motivated, disciplined, possess an entrepreneurial spirit and are looking for an opportunity to become a CEO of your own business, this may be the opportunity for you.

What type of training do we provide?

At Hilliard Lyons, we are committed to providing the highest level of support to our Financial Consultants to ensure their success. This includes one of the most effective training programs in the industry today.

After joining Hilliard Lyons there will be a period of time to study and successfully complete the Series 7 and 66 licensing. Once the appropriate licenses have been attained, trainees are available to attend the 2 week program at our home office location in Louisville, Kentucky. During this time we will help develop the skills necessary to become successful, as well as hear from other successful Financial Consultants on how they have built their practice. Additionally, there will be a high level overview of the tools and resources of Hilliard Lyons as well as how to leverage them into building a business.

Once this session has concluded, trainees will return to their branch location to begin a career as a Financial Consultant. Over the next 2 years there will be a follow up training program that will continue the development of a successful Financial Consultant. This program may include:

  • Ongoing training on the tools and resources of Hilliard Lyons

  • Inclusion in a successful mentor program to work with a senior advisor

  • Follow up conference calls on “What’s Working”

  • Development sessions with your Branch Manager to ensure you are on a path to succeed

  • Reunion classes to network with other trainees at Hilliard Lyons

  • And more…

The support network through this 2 year period is one that extends throughout the Hilliard Lyons family. This network includes the Branch Manager, Regional Manager, Financial Consultants, fellow trainees, Home office employees, and specifically the direct support team in the Professional Development area of Hilliard Lyons. The only challenge will be how quickly a trainee can effectively utilize the tremendous resources available. 

What is the compensation package for a new Financial Consultant?

As a new Financial Consultant, there is a base salary for the 1st year of production with Hilliard Lyons. Additionally, a portion of the commissions generated are included as well. During the 2nd year the salary decreases by a predetermined percentage while the portion of the commissions awarded increases. After the 2nd year there is no longer a base salary and trainees are now receiving the full commissions due to a Financial Consultant as determined by the payout schedule.

In addition, there is a bonus program available to successful trainees which are paid out on a quarterly basis. Trainees are also eligible to receive the benefits as a full time employee with Hilliard Lyons.
